Courses offered by the Kerala State Open School

Two streams of Higher Secondary courses is conducted by Kerala State Open School. They are open regular and open private.

Open Regular

Duration of Course                                  -        Two years

Subjects, which can be selected               -        Science, Humanities and commerce

Details of Course

For each subject, in first and second year contact classes of 30 hrs is given. For subjects with practicals, in the first year 10 hrs contact classes and in the second year 20 hrs contact classes is given. Contact classes are guided by co-ordinating teachers by the support of district co-ordinators. The contact classes are held at selected Higher Secondary Schools.

In the first and second year, Open regular students are provided with self learning materials in simple language which are send through post in their personal address.

Part I                               -        English (Compulsory)

Part II                             -        Second Language : Malayalam, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, Urdu, Tamil, Kannada, French, Latin, Syriac, Germman, Rusian (Select any one)

Humanities

Open – Private

Duration of Course                            -     Two Years

Subjects which can be selected          -     Humanities and commerce. (Only subjects without practicals)

Details of Course

For the Private stream students, Orientation classes are conducted to crate an awareness of curriculum and continuous evaluation. Two days orientation classes are conducted in the selected study centres (which are also their examination centres) to give an idea to the students about the materials (Project, Assignment etc) to be prepared for continuous evaluation)

VHSE Additional Mathematics :

For the students who are studying Vocational Higher Secondary course. ( B Group students) can take additional mathematics in the Open School and are eligible for Entrance Examination

Time of Admission        -          

10 hrs contact classes are given to the students with Additional Mathematics in each year.
